The Judas question

What happened to Judas? Is he in heaven or hell

Conclusion: The big question is, where is Judas now? The scriptural evidence seems to indicate that he is in hell. Jesus even said, "it would be better if he had never been born." Could Judas have repented even at the moment of his last breath. I think yes because scripture gives us the story of the thief on the cross who shortly before he died called out to Jesus and Jesus responded, "Today you will be with me in paradise."

HIS ACT WAS WITH INTENT. (It was a preplanned act)

Luke 22:3 "Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the twelve, and Judas went to the chief priest and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. They were delighted and agreed to give him money. He consented and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present."

HE HAD THE HEART OF A THIEF.

John 12:6 referring to Judas say's "...he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it."

HE KNEW JESUS KNEW WHAT HE WAS ABOUT TO DO.
The setting for this verse is at the last meal. Jesus is speaking.

Matthew 26:24b-25 "...But woe to the man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born. Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, "Surely you don't mean me, Rabbi?" Jesus answered, "You have said so."

REMORSE IS NOT REPENTANCE

Matthew 27:3 "When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders."

Remorse (metamelomai in greek) portrays a person who is completely overwhelmed with emotions. Remorse can lead to repentance, but remorse alone can lead to self-condemnation, self harm and even extreme actions such as suicide.
